Mother's Day Handprint Photo Canvas Craft

Mother’s Day is tomorrow. Have you gotten your mom a gift to say thank you and show her how much you appreciate her? If not, do not worry. You still have time to make an awesome handprint and photo craft that your mom will cherish for years to come. For our second Mother’s Day together, my daughter and I made two handprint photo canvas crafts: one for me and one for my mom. I already have mine hanging on my living room wall above the television. I am also super excited to give my mom hers tomorrow.

To make your own Mother’s Day handprint photo canvas craft, start by buying and gathering your materials. First you need a blank canvas, which I found for pretty cheap at my local Hobby Lobby. You will also need acrylic craft paint, cotton balls, a paper plate or scrap of cardboard, a photograph, photo-safe glue such as PVA, and a paintbrush.

Once you have your materials gathered and organized, start decorating the blank canvas with colorful handprints. Begin by pouring some of one color of the acrylic paint onto the paper plate or cardboard. Use a cotton ball to apply a thin layer of the paint to the palm of your child’s hand. Then help your child press the handprint onto the canvas. Allow each color of handprint to dry before moving on to the next color. Thoroughly wash the paint off your child’s hand.

For my mom, my daughter and I decided to make a rainbow of handprints. I provided the red, orange, yellow, and green handprints while my daughter provided the yellow, blue, and purple.

Once the handprints are completely dry, use a paintbrush to spread a thin layer of photo-safe glue on the back of the photograph. My husband took an adorable picture of me and my daughter that I decided to use for our Mother’s Day handprint photo canvas craft. Be sure to use a photo-safe adhesive such as PVA glue.

Press the photograph onto the center of the canvas. Once the glue is thoroughly dry, give your craft to your mother for Mother’s Day. She will love displaying her thoughtful and creative keepsake gift for years to come!
