The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a nationwide recall of select Scott & Jon’s Shrimp Scampi with Linguini meals because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Demers Food Group, based in Maine, initiated the voluntary recall on October 1 after learning that its pasta supplier, Nate’s Fine Foods of Roseville, California, had recalled certain linguini ingredients for listeria contamination. The FDA published details of the recall on October 2.

Why It Matters

Listeria poses a significant risk to vulnerable groups, especially pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, infections during pregnancy can result in miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatening illness in newborns. While healthy individuals typically experience only short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, nausea, or diarrhea, the infection can spread to the bloodstream or brain in severe cases.

No illnesses have been reported to date that are connected to this recall. The FDA recommends that consumers who purchased the affected product avoid eating it and either throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. The agency also urges consumers to carefully clean and sanitize any surfaces, containers, or utensils that may have come in contact with the recalled meals, since Listeria can survive at refrigerated temperatures and spread easily to other foods.
