The infamous Dr. Seuss is back yet again with a new and exciting book, Sing the 50 States! Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) passed away in 1991, but the manuscript was rediscovered and printed this week.

Dr. Seuss created characters like the Grinch, the Lorax, Horton, and the Cat in the Hat, who later became some of Dr. Seuss’s most popular characters. Their tales have been printed over 600 million times, and now, kids have another book to add to their collection.

Although Dr. Seuss died 35 years ago and his last book (What Pet Should I Get?) was published in 2013, his legacy lives on in countless ways — including lost and rediscovered manuscripts.

Dr. Seuss’s Sing the 50 States! hits shelves just in time for America’s 250th birthday! The new children’s book was released on June 2, 2026, and teaches kids about America’s different states in a fun, zany way.

The Cat in the Hat is the star of the book, along with his two kitty friends. The Cat in the Hat teaches readers the designated state and where its shape fits on a map of America.

Although Dr. Seuss died in 1991, Sing the 50 States! was discovered in 2025 in the archives of UC San Diego’s Geisel Library. The book was found with notes on its tone and direction, along with a sketch for the cover.

Artist Tom Brannon took on the challenge and animated Sing the 50 States! artwork.

There’s A New Song That Coincides With The Book

To coincide with the book, Dr. Seuss Entertainment released a song on YouTube to accompany it.

The Cat in the Hat sings the song and starts it the same way the book does, “To sing the 50 United States, you have to use your brain.”

The Cat in the Hat then looks for each state as he sings and places it on the map of the United States. The video is simple, straightforward, and fun since it matches the book.

Listening to “Sing the 50 States!” isn’t just fun, but it’s a wonderful way to learn (and memorize the book!).
