Cinemas have been a dying breed over the past decade because of streaming services, but Toy Story 5 is a chance to get families back in theatre seats.
After four iconic movies and multiple shorts, Disney and Pixar are releasing Toy Story 5 on June 19, 2026. With toys at the forefront of the franchise, it only makes sense that they’re now the center of various movie theatres’ marketing plans.
Movie Theatres like AMC, Regal, and Cinemark are joining the fun and selling amazing collectibles so that Toy Story fans can enjoy the fifth movie like never before. From collectible popcorn tins to blankets, here’s what to expect at a movie theatre near you.
Toy Story 5 Brings ’90s Toys Together With Tech
Starring Tom Hanks (Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear), Joan Cusack (Jesse), and Greta Lee (Lilypad), Toy Story 5 focuses on a new toy in town: the tablet Lilypad.
With Woody and Bo-Peep working together to find new owners for lost toys, Jesse and Buzz take control of Bonnie’s room. However, things go awry when Bonnie gets infatuated with her new tablet, Lilypad. Lilypad becomes a likable villain as the toys try to get Bonnie’s attention in a fast-paced world.
Movie Theatres Are Trying To Get You Into Their Seats With Some Cool Collectibles
Streaming, rising ticket prices, COVID-19, and safety concerns have made movie theaters almost obsolete. Harvard found that the share of people visiting movie theatres decreased from 39% in 2019 to 17% just six years later.
Another survey showed 75% of people would rather stream a movie than go to the movie theatre. With Toy Story being a monumental blockbuster, it’s a chance for movie theatres to see a spike in attendance, especially if they’re selling some memorable mementos to celebrate the fifth movie. Here’s what to expect.
