'You're My Little Cuddle Bug' Book Review

I love sharing new board books with my littlest readers. My newest daughter is not yet five months old, but I already read to her all the time. I often read to her and my preschool son at the same time. My oldest daughter also loves reading aloud to her baby sister, and my son enjoys flipping through books to look at the pictures and “read” to himself. When recently offered the chance to review You’re My Little Cuddle Bug written by Nicola Edwards and illustrated by Natalie Marshall from Silver Dolphin Books in exchange for my honest opinion, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to add a new title to my home library.

Author/Illustrator

Currently residing in East London with her husband, author Nicola Edwards grew up by the seaside in beautiful Brighton. She loves reading, dancing, rhyming and turquoise things and spends her days writing and editing books for children.

Illustrator Nathalie Marshall graduated with an honors degree in graphic design and an illustration award from the Melbourne Art Directors Club. She has licensed her illustrations to American Greetings, Hallmark, and Papyrus, and her work has appeared on packaging for a variety of products including talcum powder and blueberries. She also creates her own greeting cards for her Little Red Owl label. She currently lives near the beach with her bike-loving husband, two busy children, and an Australian Koolie named Obi Wan.

Evaluation

“You’re my little ladybug, you brighten up my day. With rosy cheeks, you smile at me, and chase my blues away,” begins You’re My Little Cuddle Bug written by Nicola Edwards with illustrations from Natalie Marshall. I absolutely love reading the new board book aloud to my infant. The story is so sweet and perfect for the littlest of readers. I also call my youngest daughter a cuddle bug a lot, so the cuddle bug-themed book is perfect to read out loud to her. My preschool son also loves listening to me read the book to his baby sister. He additionally loves flipping through the pages on his own to look at all the raised bugs throughout the pages.

While the story in You’re My Little Cuddle Bug is absolutely adorable, the illustrations are even more so. The pictures are bright and colorful, perfect for capturing and holding the attention of the littlest readers. My son particularly enjoys the die-cut bugs on every other page as well as the cut out on the opposite page through which the bug fits. I also love that a baby bug appears alone but then joins a parent bug by turning the cut-out page over. The board book is absolutely gorgeous and fun for preschoolers on up!

Final Verdict

If you are searching for a sweet title to share with your littlest reader, my kiddos and I highly recommend You’re My Little Cuddle Bug written by Nicola Edwards and illustrated by Natalie Marshall from Silver Dolphin Books. The message in the chunky board book makes for perfect bedtime reading. The illustrations are bold and colorful, ideal for grabbing the attention of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. My preschool son particularly enjoys the die-cut baby bugs and cut-out pages. My young readers and I give You’re My Little Cuddle Bug many thumbs up as an excellent addition to any home library!
