A routine laptop purchase at Best Buy allegedly fell apart over a single word, and a TikTok video shared by @dyhotnews999 about it has split viewers online after a customer mistakenly assumed an employee’s gender.
According to the video, a middle-aged man went to Best Buy looking for a new laptop. After an employee answered his questions, he reportedly said, “Thank you, sir.”
The video alleged the employee became upset. The employee then pointed to her long hair and said she identified as a woman and reportedly asked why the customer had assumed her gender.
Customer Assumed The Employee’s Gender To Be Male

The exchange allegedly escalated from there. In the narration, the employee refused to complete the sale, while the customer maintained he had not meant to insult anyone. The customer also said he had only wanted to buy a computer.
Meanwhile, when the buyer seemingly turned to another employee for help, that worker also supported the first. He also refused to sell the customer anything.
The video also claimed that the man reportedly left without a laptop, but later filed a complaint with Best Buy’s corporate office over what happened and how his purchase attempt was handled.
Why the Employee Allegedly Objected and Refused to Complete the Sale

The narration claimed that Best Buy reviewed the incident and later fired the employee who first confronted the customer. That claim has not been independently confirmed. The video also does not include any official statement from the company.
Commentators seemingly made it a generational complaint. One commenter dismissed the new generation as a joke. That is where the “snowflake” label tends to surface.
The term has long been aimed at young people seen as overly sensitive or entitled. Critics reportedly say it is often used to shut down debate rather than engage with it.
Was The Best Buy Employee Fired?

Notably, employees should be able to correct customers whom they feel have addressed them incorrectly or disrespectfully.
Refusing to complete a purchase might seem to raise a different question, especially when the buyer admits that they meant no offense.

It is unclear which store was involved, when the exchange took place, who the employees were or what was said beyond the narrator’s account.
The clip posted has reportedly not been independently verified. The store’s location and the date of the encounter were also not specified in coverage of the video.
