A Is for Alligator Handprint Craft

A is for alligator! Help your toddler learn about the letter A by making a fun alligator handprint craft.

Materials

  • Dark green, light green, red, white, and black nontoxic paint
  • Blank paper
  • Paper plate or scrap cardboard
  • Cotton ball
  • Cotton swab or paintbrush

Instructions

  1. Pour some light green paint onto the cardboard.
  2. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of light green paint on your child’s right hand.
  3. Press the light green handprint into the center left of the paper with the fingers together and the thumb pointing down.
  4. Wash the paint off your child’s hand.
  5. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of light green paint on your child’s left hand.
  6. Press the light green handprint directly to the right of the first handprint with all the fingers and thumb together and pointing to the side.
  7. Wash the paint off your child’s hand.
  8. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of light green paint on your child’s fingertip.
  9. Press four light green fingertip prints under the second handprint. Reapply the paint as needed.
  10. Wash the paint off your child’s finger.
  11. Pour some red paint onto the cardboard.
  12. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of red paint on your child’s fingertip.
  13. Press one red fingertip print between the index finger and the thumb of the first handprint.
  14. Wash the paint off your child’s finger.
  15. Pour some dark green paint onto the cardboard.
  16. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of dark green paint on your child’s fingertip.
  17. Press dark green fingertip prints on the top of the second handprint. Reapply the paint as needed.
  18. Wash the paint off your child’s finger.
  19. Pour some white paint onto the cardboard.
  20. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of white paint on your child’s fingertip.
  21. Press a white fingertip print into the center of the first handprint.
  22. Wash the paint off your child’s finger.
  23. Pour some black paint onto the cardboard.
  24. Use a paintbrush to paint a black pupil in the center of the white fingerprint.
  25. Use a paintbrush to paint “A is for alligator” in dark green on the paper.
