As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, my toddler daughter and I have been busy reading as many Thanksgiving books from the library as possible. Here are some of our favorite board books for Thanksgiving for toddlers that you can share with your young child this November, all of which you can purchase via my Amazon links.
The Story of Thanksgiving (1999)
The Story of Thanksgiving (1999) written by Nancy J. Skarmeas and illustrated by Stacy Venturi-Pickett is a nonfiction book that teaches young readers about the history and traditions of the Thanksgiving holiday. Recommended for readers ages 2 and older, the book offers a Christian introduction to the holiday.
Turkey Time (2000)
Turkey Time (2000) by Kelly Asbury is a simple Thanksgiving book told in a rhymed verse. Recommended for readers ages 4 and up, this book talks about the big Thanksgiving dinner from turkey and potatoes to corn on the cob and pumpkin pie.
Thanksgiving Parade (2000)
Thanksgiving Parade (2000) written by Kelly Asbury and illustrated by Jodi Huelin is another simple Thanksgiving book told in a rhymed verse. Recommended for readers between the ages of 2 and 3, this book teaches young readers about the traditional Thanksgiving day parade.
Spot’s Thanksgiving (2003)
Spot’s Thanksgiving (2003) written and illustrated by Eric Hill features the beloved canine character Spot in a Thanksgiving tale. Readers between the ages of 1 and 3 years old will delight in reading about Spot as he bakes a pumpkin pie for the big Thanksgiving meal.
Five Silly Turkeys (2005)
Five Silly Turkeys (2005) written and illustrated by Salina Yoon is a counting book full of silly turkeys doing very silly things. Recommended for readers between the ages of 2 and 5 years old, this book reinforces counting the first five numbers within a Thanksgiving setting.
Corduroy’s Thanksgiving (2006)
Corduroy’s Thanksgiving (2006) from Dan Freeman and illustrated by Lisa McCue features the classic bear character Corduroy in a sweet Thanksgiving story for children. My First Thanksgiving (2008)
My First Thanksgiving (2008) by Tomie dePaola perfectly captures the joy of the Thanksgiving holiday through simple text and bright illustrations. Young readers will love learning more about the traditional celebrations of the day.
Thanksgiving Counting (2016)
Thanksgiving Counting (2016) written by Barbara Barbieri McGrath with illustrations by Peggy Tagel helps young readers count to six through the joys of Thanksgiving dinner. The youngest readers will enjoy the bright colors throughout the simple board book.
Happy Thanksgiving (2015)
Happy Thanksgiving (2015) from Roger Priddy is a simple word book with photographs to look at and Thanksgiving words to learn for the littlest readers.
