I love decorating my Christmas tree with my kiddos in preparation for the holiday season! Back in August, I began crocheting a bit again. In addition to a couple of hats that I made for my children, I also crocheted three miniature hats, one for each of my babies to hang on the Christmas tree. I got the idea for tiny little hats while making a newborn hat for my third-born. I used a J crochet hook and thinner yarn in pink, blue, and baby pastel colors. For smaller hats, you can use an even smaller hook and even thinner yarn. For larger hats, use a larger hook and/or thicker yarn.
Crocheted Miniature Hat Christmas Ornaments
- Round 1: chain 2, 6 single crochets in second chain from hook (6 stitches)
- Round 2: 2 single crochets in each stitch around (12 stiches)
- Round 3: 1 single crochet in first stitch, 2 single crochets in second stitch, repeat around round (18 stiches)
- Round 4: 1 single crochet in first stitch, 1 single crochet in second stitch, 2 single crochets in third stitch, repeat around round (24 stitches)
- Rounds 5 to 10: 1 single crochet in each stitch around (24 stitches per round)
- Round 11: 1 single crochet in first stitch, 1 single crochet in second stitch, 1 single crochet in third stitch, 2 single crochets in fourth stitch, repeat around round (30 stitches)
- Rounds 12 to 14: 1 single crochet in each stitch around (30 stitches per round)
- Fasten off final stitch
- Fold up four rows of 30 stitches
- Braid a length of yarn
- Tie the braid in a loop through the top of the hat
- Hang the crocheted miniature hat ornament on the Christmas tree
