How to Make a Felt Pizza Toy

How to Make a Felt Pizza Toy

My son is obsessed with pizza! If I would let him, he would eat pizza for every meal. His birthday is coming up in a few weeks. I looked on Amazon for some toy pizzas for him. However, when I saw a few felt pizza sets, I realized that I could just as easily make my own for him. I already had a box of felt and sewing supplies. Most of the work involved cutting out topping shapes. Now my son will be receiving a personalized felt pizza toy for his birthday made with felt, scissors, and a little sewing. You can even customize the toppings to fit the unique tastes of your child!

Materials

  • Tan, red, yellow, brown, black, gray, green, and white acrylic felt
  • Tan and gray thread
  • Cotton balls
  • Needle
  • Scissors
  • Cardboard

Directions

  1. Cut a piece of tan felt into a large circle.
  2. Cut the tan circle into four equal pieces.
  3. Cut four curved pieces about an inch in width from tan felt to fit on the curved edge of each circle piece.
  4. Sew the curved pieces onto the circle pieces using a needle and thread. Stuff the edges with cotton balls to form a crust before sewing the pieces closed.
  5. Cut a smaller circle with wavy edges from a piece of red felt.
  6. Cut the red circle into four equal pieces.
  7. Cut a slightly smaller circle with wavy edges from a piece of yellow felt.
  8. Cut the yellow circle into four equal pieces.
  9. Cut circles for pepperoni from red felt.
  10. Cut wiggly blobs for sausage from brown felt.
  11. Cut mushroom shapes from gray felt.
  12. Cut crescents for green peppers from green felt.
  13. Cut circles with holes in the middle for black olives from black felt.
  14. Cut crescents for onions from white felt.
  15. Cut trapezoids for pineapples from yellow felt.
  16. Cut a piece of cardboard slightly larger than the tan circle.
  17. Cut two circles from gray felt to fit over the cardboard circle.
  18. Sew the edges of the gray circles together with the cardboard inside.
  19. Place the felt pizza on the gray pizza tray.
