Disclosure: I received a copy of My Twins’ First Halloween as part of an advertorial.
My toddler daughter loves to read. She also loves Halloween. She especially loves reading books about Halloween. Thus, when recently offered the chance to review My Twins’ First Halloween by Paris Morris, I eagerly accepted the opportunity.
Child author Paris Morris wrote her first book in the My Friend Paris series, I’m Having Twins, when she found no other children’s books that addressed the issues she was going through while her parents were expecting her twin sisters. My Twins’ First Halloween focuses on Paris teaching her twin sisters about the activities surrounding the Halloween holiday. The sisters visit a pumpkin patch, pick out costumes, learn about the Day of the Dead, and go trick or treating.
Written by a child for other children, My Twins’ First Halloween contains simple language that keeps young readers interested. The story is short but complete. My two-year-old daughter sits still for the entire story and even asks for her father and I to read the book aloud again and again. Toddlers through younger middle schoolers can all enjoy My Twins’ First Halloween.
My daughter and I both especially like the illustrations in My Twins’ First Halloween. With a slight comic book feel, the pictures are bright and colorful. My daughter particularly loves pointing out her favorite Halloween-themed objects on each page such as pumpkins and ghosts. My husband mentioned that he likes the physical feel of the book. The texture of the cover if definitely different from most other paperbacks.
Final Verdict: My Twins’ First Halloween by Paris Morris is a new favorite book in my daughter’s library. The book, which is part of the My Friend Paris series, shares the story of Paris as she teaches her younger twin sisters all about the Halloween holiday. The language is simple, making the book perfect for readers as young as toddlers all the way through middle schoolers. My favorite part, however, is the colorful and interesting illustrations. If you are looking for a Halloween book for your young reader, I highly recommend My Twins’ First Halloween.
