Kylie Kelce just presented evidence that trying to work while your kid is in the room can be extremely frustrating, but amazingly adorable. Shout out to my own daughter, who learned the alphabet by pointing out the letters on my keyboard as I typed!
This gets a bit more complicated when your job is on camera. Mine has tried to join a few Zoom meetings, but at least the audiences were small. Kelce’s baby joined her in the room for her podcast, though, and the world shared in the entertainment.
Here’s a bit of the fun as Kelce shows us her experience with Take Your Daughter to Work Day.
This Mom’s Priorities Are Clear
Quick content warning. Kelce starts this episode right off responding to public commentary on her rear end, discussing a camera shot from a curling session. She shares the image, discusses the cameraperson’s skill at showing the quality of her pants, so do be prepared.
That said, the kid is involved in the process from the beginning.
Kelce starts out by letting us know that her toddler, Bennet, is in the room and might make some noise. Sure enough, in the first couple of minutes, she has to interrupt herself to answer her daughter’s questions about her shoes.
She suggests the little one might prefer to go play with toys in the next room, and we get our first glimpse of potential disaster soon after.
The Most Relatable Parenting Moment
It doesn’t take long before Kelce has to interrupt herself again, and this time, everyone listening knows what’s happened, even though we can’t see the child or what she’s carrying. Kelce keeps admirably calm as she asks:
“Where were you drawing? On Paper? You promise?”
Sure enough, after sending the toddler on her way again, Kelce shows us exactly what we expected: a black permanent marker.
Kylie and her husband, former NFL player Jason Kelce, have four daughters, Wyatt, Elliotte, Bennett, and Finnley, ranging in age from 6 years to about 10 months, so she presumably gets plenty of practice handling chaos with calm.
Bennett also appeared on the podcast last month, stepping out in her Elsa costume to meet guest Michael Bublé, according to People.
She Almost Makes It Through The Episode
Bennett must have found something fun to play with (we can hope it wasn’t another marker) because at this point, we don’t see her again for a while.
She allows her mom to chat with WNBA star Paige Bueckers about her spiral football throw, the Olympics, and being spotted for her sports skills as early as 6th grade, before making another appearance.
Zip to the last minute of the episode to hear Bennett return for a bit more conversation, most of which we hear through her mother’s echoing back (which is, by the way, both an excellent way to encourage language development, and handy for giving yourself a moment to process whatever wild ideas your kid pops out with):
“What? I smell like a dog? That’s so nice of you, thanks, baby….is there anything nicer?”
Then, we get a brief glimpse of Bennett on-camera, as Kylie asks, “What is that smell? did you fart?”
Nope, Bennett assures us, that was a mosquito.
