The Coming-Of-Age Fantasy Hits Theaters November 25 And Stars Hailee Steinfeld And Rashida Jones

Disney has released the first teaser trailer for Hexed, giving families their earliest look at the magical animated coming-of-age adventure arriving in theaters on November 25, 2026. Produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, the film will also debut on Disney+ in early 2027.

What Is Hexed About?

Hexed centers on Billie, an impulsive and unconventional teenage girl who discovers she has magical abilities. Those powers pull her out of ordinary suburban life and into Hexe, a hidden realm populated by witches. Her cautious mother Alice joins her on the journey as the two dig into long-held family secrets tied to that world.

Director Fawn Veerasunthorn described the emotional core of the story, telling JoBlo, “A wonderfully strange phenomenon is happening all around Billie, something she can’t explain. She’s someone who has felt miscast in her own life, and it takes leaving her normal world behind and entering a hidden world of wild, unhinged magic to begin to understand herself.”

Co-director Jason Hand added, “Hexe is a place where Billie begins to feel seen for the first time in her life. She embarks on a journey of self-discovery that reveals a powerful connection to magic, and in the process uncovers long-held secrets about her family.”

Who Is In The Hexed Voice Cast?

Hailee Steinfeld leads the cast as Billie, with Rashida Jones voicing her mother Alice. Tracey Ullman brings to life Ms. Quill, an enchanted feather quill pen, while Stephen Fry voices Elias Quire, a magical book.

Emilie-Claire Barlow also appears in the film. Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones are producing, with Walt Disney Animation Studios chief creative officer Jared Bush serving as executive producer.

How Did The Story Evolve?

The project has an interesting creative history. When Bush first announced it at Destination D23 in 2025, the story centered on an awkward teenage boy and his Type-A mother. Over the course of development, that central character was reimagined as a teenage girl.

Directors Josie Trinidad and Jason Hand were attached from the start, later joined by Veerasunthorn. Disney also previewed early footage and concept material for the film at both CinemaCon 2026 and the Annecy Animation Festival.

Why ‘Hexed’ Could Be An Important Movie For Families

Hexed arrives at a moment when coming-of-age stories centered on girls navigating identity and belonging are resonating strongly with young audiences.

A teenage protagonist who feels out of place in her own life, only to find her footing through a fantastical journey, is a premise that speaks directly to kids and the parents watching alongside them.

If the finished film delivers on the emotional promise of its directors’ words, it could be one of the more meaningful family theater experiences of the holiday season.
