The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of more than 25,000 Pillani nursing pillows that can obstruct an infant’s breathing.

The CPSC announced the recall on October 29, stating the pillows violated the mandatory safety standard for nursing pillows. No injuries or incidents have been reported. The agency said parents should stop using the pillows immediately and contact the company for a full refund.

Why the Pillows Were Recalled

The CPSC noted the pillows failed the mandatory safety standard, which sets requirements for the shape, firmness and design of nursing pillows.

As a result, the pillows can obstruct an infant’s breathing and pose a risk of serious injury or death from suffocation. CPSC data cited by Consumer Reports links nursing pillows to 154 infant deaths and 64 injuries between 2010 and 2022. Most of the babies were under 3 months old.

Nursing pillows should support parents while feeding their babies. These pillows should never be used as infant sleep products. As a result, federal safety rules for nursing pillows were strengthened in 2025 to make the products safer and discourage their use for infant sleep.

How Customers Can Get a Refund

The CPSC has advised consumers to stop using the recalled PILLANI nursing pillows immediately.

Parents should take the following steps:

  • Check the label: Look for model NP4351 and batch numbers 202604, 202605 or 202606.
  • Stop using the pillow: Do not continue using it for feeding or other activities.
  • Contact PILLANI: Email pillanirecall@gmail.com or visit the company’s recall page.
  • Request a refund: Consumers are entitled to a full refund.
  • Follow disposal instructions: The company will request a photo of the product and provide disposal instructions.

The company has asked consumers to submit a photograph before following its disposal instructions.

The CPSC recommends these steps for any nursing pillow, including older ones:

  • Use it only while feeding the baby.
  • Never use it for infant sleep or lounging.
  • Keep it out of the crib or bassinet.
  • Do not leave a baby unattended on it, especially on an elevated surface.
  • Move the baby to a safe sleep space if the baby or parent gets sleepy.

Parents who bought a nursing pillow online this year may want to check the label for the model and batch numbers. Even pillows that are not part of the recall are meant for feeding only, not for sleep.
