O Is for Octopus Handprint Craft

O is for octopus! Help your toddler learn about the letter O by making a fun octopus handprint craft.

Materials

  • Orange and blue nontoxic paint
  • Blank paper
  • Paper plate or scrap cardboard
  • Cotton ball
  • Cotton swab or paintbrush

Instructions

  1. Pour some orange paint onto the cardboard.
  2. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of orange paint on your child’s right hand excluding the thumb.
  3. Press the thumb-less handprint onto the left center of the paper with the fingers pointing down.
  4. Wash the paint off your child’s hand.
  5. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of orange paint on your child’s left hand excluding the thumb.
  6. Press the thumb-less handprint onto the right center of the paper with the fingers pointing down. The palm of the second handprint should slightly overlap the palm of the first.
  7. Wash the paint off your child’s hand.
  8. Pour some blue paint onto the cardboard.
  9. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of blue paint on your child’s fingertip.
  10. Press blue fingerprints around the pink handprint. Reapply the blue paint as needed.
  11. Wash the paint off your child’s finger.
  12. Use a paintbrush to paint “O is for octopus” in orange on the paper.
