Storyline
In this episode, Lemo's unusual pet—a sea pig he's named Arlo—wreaks havoc aboard the Calypso. Sea pigs are deep-sea creatures that typically live in the Midnight Zone, far below the sunlit waters where the crew usually operates. Arlo's antics disrupt daily routines and create messes throughout the submarine, testing the patience of Lemo's crewmates. Lettie, concerned about both the chaos and Arlo's well-being, insists that Lemo return the sea pig to its natural habitat in the Midnight Zone where it belongs.
The episode centers on Lemo's attachment to his unconventional pet and the difficult choice he faces between keeping Arlo close and doing what's right for the animal. The crew must navigate the challenges of descending into the dark, high-pressure environment of the Midnight Zone to return Arlo safely. Through this journey, Lemo learns about the importance of respecting wild animals' needs and the difference between caring for a pet and caring for a creature that belongs in the wild.
What kids learn
Children watching this episode learn about the concept of appropriate habitats and why wild animals need to live in environments suited to their biology. The episode introduces the Midnight Zone as a real oceanic layer where specialized creatures like sea pigs thrive, offering a gentle introduction to ocean zonation and deep-sea ecosystems. Young viewers see that even when we care about an animal, keeping it in the wrong environment can harm it, no matter how much we want it as a pet.
The storyline also teaches children about making difficult but responsible choices. Lemo's struggle to let Arlo go demonstrates that loving something sometimes means letting it return to where it belongs, even when that's hard. This models emotional maturity and empathy for animal welfare. Kids learn that our desires must sometimes take a back seat to what's best for another living creature.
Additionally, the episode reinforces problem-solving and teamwork as the crew works together to safely navigate the challenging Midnight Zone environment. Children see the value of listening to friends like Lettie who offer wise counsel, and they learn that doing the right thing often requires courage and support from others.

| Will my child be scared by the Midnight Zone setting? | The Midnight Zone is presented as a dark, deep-sea environment, but the show handles it in an age-appropriate, educational way rather than making it frightening.
