P Is for Parrot Handprint-Footprint Craft

P is for parrot! Help your toddler learn about the letter P by making a fun parrot footprint and handprint craft.

Materials

  • Red, yellow, blue, purple, and orange nontoxic paint
  • Blank paper
  • Paper plate or scrap cardboard
  • Cotton ball
  • Cotton swab or paintbrush

Instructions

  1. Pour some red paint onto the cardboard.
  2. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of red paint on your child’s foot.
  3. Press the red footprint onto the paper with the toes pointing down.
  4. Wash the paint off your child’s foot.
  5. Pour some yellow paint, blue paint, and purple paint onto the cardboard.
  6. Use cotton balls to spread a thin layer of each paint color in stripes on your child’s hand.
  7. Press two tri-colored handprints next to the red footprint. Reapply the paint as needed.
  8. Wash the paint off your child’s hand.
  9. Pour some orange paint onto the cardboard.
  10. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of orange paint on your child’s fingertip.
  11. Press the orange fingertip print into the center of the heel of the red footprint.
  12. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of orange paint on your child’s finger.
  13. Press the orange fingerprint extending from the red heel opposite the tri-color handprints.
  14. Wash the paint off your child’s finger.
  15. Use a paintbrush to paint “P is for parrot” in orange on the paper.
