W Is for Walrus Handprint Craft

W is for walrus! Help your toddler learn about the letter W by making a fun walrus handprint craft.

Materials

  • Orange, brown, and white nontoxic paint
  • Blank paper
  • Paper plate or scrap cardboard
  • Cotton ball
  • Cotton swab or paintbrush

Instructions

  1. Pour some orange paint onto the cardboard.
  2. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of orange paint on your child’s hand.
  3. Press a handprint into the center of the paper with the fingers pointing down.
  4. Wash the paint off your child’s hand.
  5. Pour some brown paint onto the cardboard.
  6. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of brown paint on your child’s fingertip.
  7. Press four brown fingertip prints across the palm of the handprint. Reapply the paint as needed.
  8. Wash the paint off your child’s finger.
  9. Pour some white paint onto the cardboard.
  10. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of white paint on your child’s fingertip.
  11. Press two white fingertip prints above the brown fingertip prints. Reapply the paint as needed.
  12. Use a cotton ball to spread a thin layer of white paint on your child’s finger.
  13. Press two white fingerprints below the brown fingertip prints. Reapply the paint as needed.
  14. Wash the paint off your child’s finger.
  15. Use a paintbrush to paint two brown pupils in the center of the white fingertip prints.
  16. Use a paintbrush to paint “W is for walrus” in brown on the paper.
